Why Own Instead of Buy
A Freezer Empties. A Herd Calves.
Money spent at the grocery store is gone the week you spend it. Cattle on good land are something else: an asset your family can drive to, put their hands on, and hand down. It grows while you are not looking at it.
Worth being straight about
Building a herd from one cow is a multi-year project, and the freezer is not the first thing that fills. If what you want is grass fed beef on the table soon, say so and we will point you at a half or whole share instead. We would rather send you down the right path than the expensive one.

Livestock ownership is real ownership of a living animal on a working ranch. That is what makes it meaningful, and it is also what makes it different from anything else you can buy. Animals get sick. Weather happens. Droughts affect pasture and markets shift. Vincent Farms does everything they can to raise healthy animals on healthy land, but nobody can promise a perfect outcome and we will not pretend otherwise.
This is not an investment. We are not selling shares, offering returns, or guaranteeing beef yields, market values or resale prices. We talk to every potential owner before any commitment, not to pitch you, but to walk through all of this properly. If a half or whole beef share is the better fit, we will say so on that call too.
OwnYourHerd is a marketplace that connects families with pasture based ranchers. We do not offer securities, investment contracts, or financial products, and we do not guarantee profits, beef yields, market values, or any specific outcome. Every ownership arrangement is between the family and the rancher.

What is OwnYourHerd, exactly?
We connect families who want to own real livestock with vetted, pasture-based ranchers who raise it for them. You buy live cattle that are yours, they live on a working ranch under that ranch’s daily care, and every calf they produce is yours too. It is not a subscription, a delivery box or an investment product. Today that means one ranch: Vincent Farms in East Texas.
Who will I actually talk to?
Your first call is with the OwnYourHerd team, to work out whether ownership genuinely fits your family. As you get further along you will also speak with Vincent Farms directly, because you should know the people raising your cattle before you commit to anything.
Do I need any farming experience?
None at all. The ranch handles everything: daily care, grazing, health, all of it. You own the livestock. They do the work.
How much does it cost to own a cow?
At Vincent Farms, bred mama cows are $6,500 each for one or two, and $6,000 each for three to nine. Ten or more is a conversation. The first year of care is included, and after that annual management is $1,500 per head.
What is the annual management fee?
At Vincent Farms it is $1,500 per head per year after the first year. It covers the daily care of your animals, and brood cow insurance is included in it.
How do I get my food?
When your livestock is ready for harvest, you as the owner arrange and pay for processing. Fees vary by region and processor, so there is no flat number to quote. Picking your beef up at the processor is free within the pickup window; shipping or delivery is arranged at your cost. The ranch will point you to processors they work with.
Can I own livestock even if I do not live near a ranch?
Yes. Many families own livestock on ranches hours or even states away. When your food is ready, you can travel to pick it up at the processor for free within the pickup window, or arrange shipping at your cost.
What if I do not want the food?
The animal can be sold at market and you receive the proceeds. You are never stuck with something you do not want.
What if something happens to my livestock?
Livestock carries inherent risk, and ranchers manage animal health proactively. Every brood cow is insured as part of her maintenance fees, and if she dies she is replaced. For all other animals, insurance is available optionally at the owner’s expense.
